Health Minister inspects treatment provided by Chinese ship

The Chinese hospital ship providing free treatment and medical examination services to the people of Sri Lanka is under the observation of the Minister of Health and Mass Media.

The Chinese Navy hospital ship “Peace Ark” is currently anchored at the Colombo Port and the free treatment and medical examination services provided to the people of Sri Lanka were inspected by the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, yesterday (26).

This hospital ship, which arrived in Sri Lanka as part of the Chinese government’s Mission Harmony – 2024 program, arrived at the Colombo Port on December 21. Since then, until today (27), this ship has been providing free medical examination and treatment services to the people of Sri Lanka as well as Chinese people staying in the country.

Appreciating the health services provided to the people of this country and the world through the intervention of this hospital ship, as well as the humanitarian efforts being made, the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, pointed out that the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China will be further strengthened by assisting in improving public health in the country. The Minister also pointed out that the Chinese government has been intervening for the advancement of health, economy, education and social affairs in the country for a very long time and that it is highly appreciated.

Equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, this hospital ship not only provides all health tests including scans but also provides Chinese Ayurvedic medical services including Chinese acupuncture. The ship is also equipped with many facilities including operating rooms, intensive care units, ambulances, helicopters and specialist medical services.

The ship’s main objective is to provide immediate humanitarian relief to emergency situations occurring around the world, and the ship has been deployed for medical assistance since its construction by the People’s Republic of China in 2008.

Deputy Minister of Defense (Retd) Major General Aruna Jayasekara, Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, tri-service commanders, Chiefs of Defense Staff as well as a group representing the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense were present on this occasion.
